IFAPA Accomplishments
  • We have members located throughout the state, most of whom belong to chartered local chapters.

  • The IFAPA publishes a statewide newsletter, that provides not only the latest news affecting foster/adoptive parents but a forum for their opinions. The newsletter has received acclaim from foster/adoptive parents throughout the State of Illinois.

  • IFAPA works with DCFS to provide the best training conferences for foster/adoptive parents, agency staff, and any child advocate who may want to learn more about the Foster/Adoptive Care System.

  • The IFAPA has top resource personnel available for advice and suggestions concerning foster/adoptive care.

  • The IFAPA works with legislators for positive changes in child welfare laws.

  • The IFAPA was instrumental in DCFS’s position allowing private agency foster/adoptive parents to participate in DCFS training.

  • The IFAPA was a driving force in obtaining state insurance coverage for DCFS and private agency foster parents for willful damage done by a state ward. Prior to 1980, only DCFS foster parents were covered.

  • The IFAPA has been instrumental in protecting the foster/adoptive parents’ right to appeal.

  • The IFAPA keeps apprised of bills in the legislature that affect children and foster/adoptive parents.  Then acts on that information when appropriate

  • The IFAPA has had significant input in training and in policy and procedure changes. We have been represented in the media, expressing the opinions of foster/adoptive parents in the state.

  • The IFAPA was instrumental in framing the Foster Parent Bill of Rights and Responsibilities which applies to all licensed foster parents the state.

  • We have a new improved web page with a new updated hot topics page.  We will post important information for foster and adoptive parents on this page.
